For his 6th project on GRN+GLD, Basico returns once again with a fresh crop of dusty gemstones. Covering 14 tracks, 41 minutes, and featuring 13 guest artists, "Open Season" shows us just how busy this prolific creator really is. Composed on a wide variety of gear, in a wide variety of studios, this release is lovely collage of pre-quarantine jams and collaborations; all helmed and organized by the man known as Basico. House, Footwork, Hip-Hop, Drum & Bass, Electro, take your pick. On this tour of sights, sounds and influences from across the spectrum, you never know who or what will show up.

Opening with a lo-fi blast off co-produced by Lakewood, 'Condo Fever' is a perfect blend of samples and synthesis. Scatter-brained footwork delirium rears its head on the track 'The Eternal Cubianos.' This delightfully strange song features live trumpet from Madd Galaxy, with co-production from GRN+GLD's very own Chip Monk + Dirty Merlin, all recorded one late night at The GRN+GLD Compound.

The release's longest track, 'Perseverance' (also co-produced by Dirty Merlin), oscillates between a slamming house groove and a jamming and jolting hip-hop neck snapper. Seductive and calm, yet barely leaving the listener time to catch their breath. Featuring deliciously lush pads, 'Top Tree' is another stand-out selection. This track, which is co-produced by Denim Jones, is a heavily Drum and Bass influenced tune taken in a refreshing West-Coast direction. Rounding off the album we have 'Hands Up ft. Ansem.' An impressive fusion of genres from both sides of the pond. Trunk rattling hip-hop meets half-time UK Dub, serenely laid under the backdrop off a fiery night sky.

All in all, GG051 is a beautiful mess. Experimental moments blend into exuberant, undeniable head nodding beats, only to descend back into chaos. Like a rambunctious party, characters, samples, and collaborators pass through, exit, and return again. Basico is clearly a social animal and "Open Season" proves that this Midas-like musician turns everything he gets his hands on into a little bit of gold.
